Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

Labor Day weekend marks the official end of summer around Long Island. The kids start back to school this week and the beaches will get progressively quieter over the next few weeks. Soon the leaves will turn and we will be heading east for Apple picking.

Autumn has always been my favorite season, something about the crisp cool air invigorates me like no other season. Very excited!

Finished up a couple projects, mostly client projects so we didn’t post a ton of social media shots during the process. We made a pallet wood bar for a friend whom requested a solid dark wood top.

September will be Corey’s second birthday, and Mary is doing a construction/truck themed party for the kids. She asked me to make toolboxes for all the kids as party favors so I spent an afternoon putting these together using lumber from the Lowe’s “cull cart”. If you don’t know what that is, you really need to check it out in the future. Most big box stores will periodically “cull” lumber that doesn’t meet their specs for resale. Issues vary and could include splits, shipping damage, stains, warping and cupping, or just being cut offs. They will sell the lumber for pennies on the dollar, just examine what you’re buying first. This wood was all damaged by a forklift on one end of the stack. The other 7 feet of boards were completely fine.

Lastly, we were given an old dresser and matching desk. We have some plans for them but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Here they are before we start, stay tuned to see how they turn out.

Thanks for stopping by!!
